Linda McCartney’s career
as a photographer began by chance. In 1966, the yet unknown
photojournalist suddenly became famous through her photographs
of a Rolling Stones press conference. No one else got so
close to the rock and pop celebrities of the sixties. Nobody
portrayed the true character of the stars as sensitively
as Linda McCartney- her pictures are intimate, but yet respectful. |

In Berlin, the exhibition STROMGITARREN
presents the previously unknown sixties series including pictures
of icons such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix or The Beatles.
Linda McCartney never thought of herself as a star photographer
who had to put herself in the service of a marketing-oriented
image campaign. She was more like a friend to the musicians,
a natural part of the pan Atlantic scene of new pop culture.
She had access to all backstage areas, the recording studios
and the musician’s private houses. Her pictures document
in gestures, style, colours and faces a unique era, which
in the course of today’s retro trend is celebrating
a fierce comeback. But here are the originals…
In November the sixties photographs will be replaced by
The Roadworks. This Series of photographs was made in the
course of thirty years while she was travelling with musicians
and it shows snapshots heavily focusing on Paul McCartney.
